Most of 2024 has been devoted to launching Procession, a work that features a lineup of twenty flags moving very slowly—1.5 mph, to be exact—across a freeway overpass in Santa Clarita, California. The grouping will take 21 days to traverse the span.

The work is under review by Caltrans, which has jurisdiction over the affected roadways. Caltrans requires that I gain the sponsorship of a “local agency” and most natural parter is the Santa Clarita Arts Commission, representing the City of Santa Clarita. But they haven’t given final approval yet either. While the necessary agreements and permits are pending, the Office of State Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo has kindly interceded to guide all the interested parties to a positive conclusion.

Hoping, by the end of 2024, to get final approval(s) to move forward. When that happens, I’ll begin efforts to raise the funds to make this project a reality. Aiming to launch in October 2025.
